Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup sugar
- ¼ teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 cup butter
- 1 eggs
- 1 cup craisins
- ¼ cups orange juice
Glaze
- ½ cups milk
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- ½ an orange’s worth of orange zest
- ½ tablespoons orange extract
Directions
In a small bowl, blend sour cream and baking soda, then set aside. Preheat the oven to 400 and lightly grease a baking sheet. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt. Cut in butter. Stir in the sour cream mixture, egg and orange juice until just moistened. Add craisins.
turn dough onto a lightly flowered surface and knead briefly. Roll or pat into a 3⁄4 inch thick circle. Cut into 12 wedges, place 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes until golden on the bottom. Top scones with glaze and devour!
Glaze
Add orange extract to the powdered sugar. Add the orange zest and then add a little milk (1 tablespoon at a time) until it makes a thick glaze.
