Ingredients
- ½ cups soured milk (1 Tbsp vinegar and milk)
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 4 oz. Bakers unsweetened chocolate
- 3 extra large eggs
- ½ cups softened butter (1 stick)
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 cups cake flour, well sifted
- 1 cup boiling water (for high altitude add 1/4 cup more)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease and flour cake pan – I use a bundt pan and set aside.
Add vinegar to milk and baking soda. DO NOT MIX.
Put chocolate squares in a double boiler. Cover and let melt. Stirring occasionally.
Mix sugar, butter and salt well at fast speed until flaking looking.
Add eggs to mixture and beat until really creamy.
Add milk mixture, reduce speed.
Add sifted flour and Mix well.
Add melted chocolate and vanilla, mix well.
Add boiling 1⁄2 cup at a time.
Mix well and pour into pan
Bake 40 to 60 minutes depending on oven.
Check often, do not overcook. Use toothpick to check.
